LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WHAS11) -- Kentucky education officials said the state's lowest-performing schools are making progress and increasing student achievement.

The Kentucky Board of Education announced that among the 41 schools in that category 11 had overall scores above the state average on the 2012-2013 Unbridled Learning Assessment.

In addition 36 of those schools met their set goals for the year.

The Kentucky Education Commissioner says the results are promising but the education department still needs to do research to determine the best way to turn the schools around.
