(WHAS11) - If you're a parent then you know it's not always cheap to keep your children busy during the summer months out of school.
According to a new report by American Express, the 2012 summer break is set to cost the average American family $600. Affluent families are expected to spend out double that amount to keep their kids entertained.
The study looked at a random sample of about 2,000 adults.
Most parents say they plan to spend a chunk of that money on trips to places like theme parks. Day camps are expected to be the biggest expense.
