(WHAS11) -- A professor at Indiana University, who was on vacation in Bermuda for just a matter of hours is dead after being hit by a motorcyclist there.

Alexander Doty, 58, passed away Sunday in Bermuda three days after he was hit by the motorcycle.

Doty had been on faculty at IU since 2008 and was the chairman of the Department of Communication and Culture.

He had been in Bermuda for about three hours when he was hit walking back to his hotel.

A 27-year-old man was arrested for driving the motorcycle under the influence.
