(WHAS11) -- Authorities tell WHAS11 News that Henryville Elementary will not be ready to go back to class on the targeted date of March 19th.

Meg Petterson, of West Clark Community Schools tells WHAS11, when classes resume, elementary students will attend class at Graceland Christian in New Albany as planned, but they’re not ready yet. The district hopes to have an announcement on a definite return date by Monday evening the 19th, but there will be no classes on Monday the 19th.

Middle and High School students are still targeting a return to the Mid American Business Park in Scottsburg the week after Spring Break. Spring Break there runs from March 26th-30th. So they will return to class on April 2.

Graduation, prom and the senior class trip are still on schedule.

The school complex sustained major damage when tornadoes struck the town last Friday. It is not known whether the Indiana Department of Education will grant a waiver to excuse lost days or if the school year will be extended.

Structural engineers are assessing how much of the Henryville school complex can be saved.  Initial repair estimates are in the tens of millions of dollars with the goal to have the buildings ready by August for the 2012-13 school year.
