(WHAS11) -- New federal funding will help dozens of Kentucky elementary schools feed more fresh produce to children in the coming school year.
The Federal Fresh Fruit and Vegetable program is giving the Kentucky Department of Education $2.7 million.
The program provides all children in participating schools with a variety of free fresh fruits and vegetables throughout the school day. Schools were eligible if more than half of the students are on free or reduced price meals.
