(WHAS 11)--The school day will be two hours longer at 18 of the lowest performing public schools in Jefferson County.

It's all an effort to boost achievement for struggling students.

The extra hours will be on Mondays, Wednesdays and Thursdays.

The After-Hours Academic Help is voluntary at the schools which include Fern Creek, Shawnee, and Doss high schools and Thomas Jefferson and Westport middle schools.
