LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WHAS11) --  The first day of school for Jefferson County is around  the corner.  WHAS11 caught up with JCPS Superintendent Donna Hargens for some last minute tips for making sure your student is ready to learn on Tuesday.

First, the hours for JCPS are as follows:
Elementary Schools - 9:05 to 3:45
Most Middle and High Schools - 7:40 to 2:20

Also on the list is knowing when and where the school bus will pick up and drop off your child.  JCPS buses are equipped with GPS trackers and drivers have been practicing their routes for the last few days. They believe this will help them avoid some of the transportation delays they've had in years past. JCPS also plans to have an additional 300 people from central services out to direct students and answer questions. Additionally, they'll be manning a transportation hotline at 502-485-7433. JCPS staff members will be available at the following times to tell you your child's bus number and find the closest stops near your house.

• Mon., Aug. 20 — 7:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
• Tues., Aug. 21 (first day of school) — 6 a.m. to 7 p.m.
• Wed., Aug. 22 — 6:30 a.m. to 6 p.m.

Hargens also recommends making sure your student has uniforms if required, and school supplies.
If you are having trouble getting those, check with the family resource center on your school’s campus.  If they are not able to help, call the clothing assistant program at 502-485-7062.
