(WHAS 11)--Kentucky senators Mitch McConnell and Rand Paul will be talking about charter schools.
They are part of a kickoff of a campaign to pass a law allowing public charter schools in Kentucky.
The commonwealth is one of only 8 states in the country without charter schools. Kentucky has lost millions of dollars in federal funding because we don't have charter schools.
Charter schools are public schools that get state and local funding but can operate under their own set of guidelines.
The kickoff is being held at the Muhammad Ali center at 10:30 a.m. August 22.
