LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WHAS11) -- The school day is getting a little longer for some students at 18 of the lowest performing Jefferson County Public Schools. It is all part of an extended learning program - an effort to boost achievement for struggling students.

The extra hours are three days a week and are voluntary at 18 different schools, including Waggener High School.

Waggner principal, Katie Zietes, talks about how the staff is implementing the program in the video above.
