LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WHAS11) - A check for $1 million is helping students at Western Kentucky High School go to college.

The Rotary Club of Louisville raised $250,000 for the Louisville Rotary Promise Scholarship. Those funds are then matched three times, turning the total amount put into the scholarship program at a whopping $1 million.

"The announcement here today...sends a loud message to students that this community believes in them and that they are fully invested in their success," said Donna Hargens, the JCPS Superintendent at the event that announced the fund.

Starting this fall, Western High School students will be offered scholarships. To qualify, they must have a GPA of 2.5 or higher, a school attendance of at least 90 percent and no major disciplinary records. They must also enroll at Jefferson Community and Technical College.
