Louisville, Ky. (WHAS11) - Three college students from New York hit the jackpot with a couch they bought for only $20.

The group got the couch from the Salvation Army, and when one of them decided to find out why it was so lumpy, they got a big surprise.

Inside the couch were envelopes filled with cash, all hundreds and fifties. In total, it added up to $40,000.

The roommates said what to do with the money wasn't a question or debate; they decided to return the money.

They tracked down the owner,  a 91-year-old woman who said she didn't trust the banks.

Her children donated the couch to the Salvation Army when she was in the hospital.
