LOUSVILLE, Ky. (WHAS11) -- An update tonight to a WHAS11 news exclusive. Several local students are facing criminal charges in a case involving alleged sexual abuse on a middle school bus.
In March 2012 a 13-year-old was on her way home on the school bus from Lassiter Middle School. That's when her mother said she was violently attacked.
An assault captured on bus security cameras.
This Louisville mother didn't want her identity revealed but she made one thing clear. She wanted the kids from Lassiter Middle School who she says attacked her daughter to face charges and now they are.
In fact, her attorney tells us one of the suspects is going on trial Monday for 1st degree sexual abuse.
Attorney Teddy Gordon represents the alleged victim's family. He says several children are facing criminal charges in connection with the incident.
The girl's mother says a group of boys and girls groped her daughter on the bus. Following the incident five students were suspended from Lassiter and the bus driver was suspended without pay.
Bus security cameras captured everything. That will be key evidence in the case - a case that could end with kids facing convictions.
The case remains in juvenile court so many of the details will not be revealed.
