LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WHAS11) -- The Louisville Metro Police Department is looking for an armed robbery suspect after a woman was shot in the 3100 W. Broadway.

Officials said a woman reported a man stole her purse and shot her after he exited a TARC bus; they said she was pushing a baby in a stroller at the time.

Witnesses said a black male attempted to grab her purse and she struggled. The man eventually got the purse and shot the woman in the abdomen.

He then fled in an unknown direction.

The assailant was described as approximately 5'5" and 165 lbs wearing a black t-shirt and camouflage shorts.

The victim was taken to University Hospital with what authorities described as non-life threatening injuries.

"She was a nice person. She talked to everybody…We don’t know who in their right mind would rob someone standing there with a baby. Especially with a baby, I mean I don't even know!" a relative to the shooting victim said.

The baby has been released to family members.

LMPD is investigating.
