CORBIN, Ky. (AP) -- The granddaughter of a southern Kentucky woman who died in 2006 has been sentenced to 20 years in prison after pleading guilty to manslaughter.

The Times-Tribune (http://bit.ly/WWlNYR) reports 40-year-old Michelle Loy was sentenced Wednesday in Whitley County Circuit Court. She had entered a guilty plea in the case in March just before her trial on a murder charge was to begin.

Loy and her mother, Patricia Lawson, were both charged in the 2010 death of 76-year-old Georgia Dotson of Williamsburg. An autopsy found that Dotson died of blunt force trauma, not a fall as Loy and Lawson told investigators.

After Loy's sentencing, charges against Lawson were dropped.

Prosecutor Allen Trimble said an investigation found Loy was Dotson's caretaker and there was "no active negligence" by Lawson.
