Louisville, Ky. (WHAS11) – A young woman is viciously attacked and robbed in broad daylight on her way to work. Now police are asking for your help to find the man responsible.
It happened while she was walking from Orville to Preston Highway, not far behind the Guardian Angels Church near the Newburg Area as the victim was walking to the bus stop on Preston Highway. Surveillance cameras recorded the ordeal.
It was a warm, beautiful July morning as a young woman walked to the bus stop. Though she was alone, the 22-year-old didn’t appear to be concerned for her safety. After all, it was a walk she made every day. But then, out of nowhere, she was attacked.
In real time, it's barely more than a blur. The video captured on a neighbor's surveillance camera shows a man rush up behind the woman and knock her to the ground.
Her cries for help eventually caught the attention of a nearby neighbor who walked toward the bridge, which sent the suspect running. The woman had trouble getting to her feet and seemed disoriented but managed to thank the neighbor who intervened. Then she too, left the scene.
The woman speaks very little English and didn't report the crime until hours later through the help of an interpreter. She told police the suspect also took $50 and her cell phone. Detective Justin Aubrey with LMPD said he hopes that will provide hard evidence to connect someone to the crime. Click on the video for a better look at the suspect. Anyone with information is asked to call 5747-LMPD (5673).
