LOUISVILLE, Ky. -- A Mount Washington woman was arrested in connection with a fatal hit and run from March, 2013.
Kayla Wafford was served with an arrest warrant this weekend. She was already in custody in Montgomery County on unrelated charges.
The aunt of Kayla Wafford, 30, did not want her identity revealed, but wants her side of the story out.
"They are wanting someone to blame. Looking for some scapegoat," says Wafford's aunt. "She said she didn't hit nobody."
Wafford was served with an arrest warrant over the weekend. In it , police accuse her of striking 33-year-old Kristopher Caudill on Bardstown Road in Fern Creek in March, 2013.
According to the warrant, Caudill was intoxicated and walking in the middle of Bardstown Road near Jefferson, when he was hit. Police said paint chips matching Wafford's truck match up to paint chips on Caudill's clothes. Wafford's family says her truck was damaged but they were told it was from a deer.
"All I know is that a deer was hit and my nephew has the head of the deer that got hit," says Wafford's aunt.
According to the family, Wafford has already been in jail for the last two weeks on unrelated charges. Now with this latest arrest they are not sure what's going to happen.
"What can we do? Our hands are all tied. If we could do more we would, but I just can't," said Wafford's aunt.
Caudill's family could not be reached for comment. Wafford faces charges of leaving the scene of the accident and tampering with physical evidence
