Woman accused of falsely informing school, others her son had cancer

BARDSTOWN, Ky. (WHAS11) – A 39-year-old woman is accused of falsely informing St. Joseph School and other service professionals in the community her 12-year-old son had cancer.

Bardstown Police said several fundraisers were held to benefit Nancye Beth Avis' family during the past two years and that Avis’ son does not and has never had cancer.

Police have been working with Child Protective Services on the investigation.

The investigation is ongoing and Bardstown Police are requesting that anyone with information regarding this incident to please call 348-6811.

Avis is charged with theft by deception under $10,000 and endangering the welfare of a minor.
