Witness helps Louisville police nab suspected shoplifters

Christopher Melson and Robert Occhipinti are accused of stealing thousands of dollars worth of merchandise from the Dillard’s at The Mall St. Matthews and Macy’s at Oxmoor Center.

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WHAS11) -- An alert witness is being credited with helping police capture two men suspected of shoplifting from two Louisville malls.

Christopher Melson and Robert Occhipinti are accused of stealing thousands of dollars worth of merchandise from the Dillard’s at The Mall St. Matthews and Macy’s at Oxmoor Center. 

Police said the witness noticed the duo taking purses from Dillard’s at The Mall so he followed them to Oxmoor Center. When officers arrived they said Melson was sitting in a car outside Macy’s.

Police said they saw Occhipinti leave Macy’s with four pairs of stolen Oakley sunglasses worth more than a thousand dollars.

When police opened the car's trunk, they said they police found four purses stolen from Dillard’s worth more than 11-hundred dollars.

Occhipinti and Melson are both charged with theft.
