LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WHAS11) -- The Louisville Mayor's Give a Day initiative is wrapping up this weekend, but on Thursday, dozens of volunteers took part in sprucing up the outside of the V.A. Hospital.
Sixty volunteers from Operation Helping Heroes hosted the service project.
Fifty trees were donated by UPS and were planted in the meditation garden and in the outdoor recreation area.
Volunteers also built benches for that recreation area.
The project was not only in support of the Mayor's Give a Day program, but in support of veterans as well.
The Give a Day project wraps up on Sunday. The goal is to break Louisville's own record for caring with at least 120,000 volunteers and acts of compassion.
