LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WHAS11) -- A source says that a 27-year-old man from Liberia is in the ICU after suffering a gunshot wound to the stomach. Another man died in the hospital after they shot each other on Frankfort Avenue over the weekend.

Jahmal Lestrade, 32, suffered multiple gunshot wounds and died in the hospital. Police say he was involved in a broad daylight shooting on Sunday afternoon at the Crescent Run Apartment complex. Neighbors on Frankfort Avenue heard him yelling.

"This guy is yelling downstairs saying help, help call the police I've been shot," a neighbor said.

"He had a handgun at his side that was putting us a little bit on edge," neighbor Kenny Cox said.

Residents say there was suspicious activity in apartment number four. A car was left in the unit's parking spot. A source says the surviving shooting victim is a 27-year-old immigrant from Liberia who does not speak much English.

"He did introduce himself to me as 'T' other than that there was a lot of in and out traffic," a neighbor told WHAS11.

Carey Klain with Louisville Metro Police said this area had not had any recent violent incidents. It is located in a low crime area next to the Third Lutheran Church and across from The Kentucky School for the Blind.

Lestrade's 12-page criminal history dates back 10 years. He had dozens of charges. Many of them were drug-related for possessing and selling cocaine and marijuana, assault and resisting arrest.

Community activist, Christopher 2X, says the murder victim's family is devastated. They are dealing with two tragedies linked by unrelated shootings. The family told 2X that Lestrade is the brother of a 17-year-old Ballard High School student who was severely hurt in a double shooting last month. Eston Gracer, 21, died from a gunshot wound.

The attempted murder stemmed from a robbery, now family is dealing with the news of deadly gun violence.
The Frankfort Avenue double shooting is still under investigation.
