(WHAS11) -- Hardin County officials are reporting numerous cases of vandalism involving Romney campaign signs.

During the overnight hours, an unknown suspect or suspects targeted nearly a dozens signs, most in the Elizabethtown area.

Some bore the name "Obama," while others carried vulgar messages.

"I'm glad I didn't catch them, because I would have probably wanted to do more than just talk to them," said Bob Bishop, whose sign had an obscene abbreviation painted on it.

"I'd say it was a childish thing to do," said Bob's wife Nancy. "That is not America, and if that's the way they think America operates, they've got it all wrong."

Other signs were damaged at the Hardin County Republican Party headquarters.

"Over 10 years, we've never had this issue here in Hardin County," said Hardin County Republican Party Chairman Mike Phillips. "We've had great elections here, and to have someone come through here and do this is just terrible."

The Republican Party is offering a $250 reward for information leading to the arrest and prosecution of the suspect or suspects.
