BULLITT COUNTY, Ky. (WHAS11) – A married couple was found dead from gunshot wounds inside their home on the 900 block of Cow Branch Road near Highway 44 on Monday.
On Tuesday, July 15, a coroner identified the couple as 65-year-old Marion Rose Blevens and 64-year-old Avery Blevens. The coroner said the cause of death for the two of them was a gunshot wound.
“Very unexpected, terrible,” Scott, a neighbor who did not want to be identified said. “It’s really bewildering.”
A family discovered the couple inside one of the home’s bedrooms around noon on Tuesday. Police believe the couple actually died on Sunday.
“We can’t say at this time if it was a murder-suicide,” Lt. Mike Murdoch, of the Bullitt Co. Sheriff’s Office said. “The family feels [that way] based on their statements, but we’re still obviously working that angle.”
Police have not released any kind of motives. According to several people who knew the couple, the husband’s behavior changed drastically after having a stroke a few years ago.
The double shooting also brought back some dark memories for people who have lived near the country road for many years.
“25 – 30 years ago there was someone else who was killed in that same house,” Scott said.
Neighbors remember a woman getting killed by her stepson in a murder more than two decades ago. The only connection between the bodies found Monday and this long-ago killing is the house.
They are also not looking for any suspects because they do not believe anyone else is involved.
