LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WHAS11) -- A teacher is facing a serious charge as of April 12 and is accused of having sexual relations with a student.
Jessica Boyers is a language arts teacher at Highland Middle School. Police arrested her Thursday night but on Friday she's out of jail. Boyers was arraigned on Tuesday morning.
Students say they were very surprised and “creeped out” when they found out about the arrest.
Some of the students were handed a letter at school on Friday to pass along to their parents.
"They gave me a note at the end of class that said there was a teacher that got arrested this morning and that it was sexual abuse to a student," Zachary Batovsky, a Highland Middle School student, said.
Police say Boyers had been caught with one of her students in a parked car in Buechel Park.
“Last night it was about 9:45 or so and our crimes against children detectives were called to Buechel Park on a report of a couple inside a car engaged in some type of sexual contact,” Alicia Smiley, with the LMPD, said.
The arrest sent shockwaves through the school.
A Highland Middle School 7th grader, Joseph Ireland, says he noticed something different about Boyer's interactions with the student she was found with.
"She was mean sometimes and she was nice to just that one kid," Ireland said.
Boyers has been released from jail and she is on non-instructional duty while the investigation continues. She's been a teacher at Highland middle since October.
Boyers also coached cross country and swimming. Before she started at Highland Middle School, she was a substitute teacher.
