(WHAS11) – A new theory is now being investigated in the search for Madeline McCann, the little girl who went missing on a family vacation 6 years ago.

The Scotland Yard is investigating a new theory that Madeline was the victim of a botched robbery.

41 people are now being investigated, 15 of whom are UK nationals. Police are following up to 31 leads in a number of countries.

An English newspaper recently reported that she might be abducted as part of a robbery after a series of break-ins in the area.

While Scotland Yard is staying quiet about the investigation, her parents are speaking out.

“I am confident we’re getting closer just by filling more pieces of the jigsaw,” Gerry McCann said.

“There is no clear, definitive proof that Madeline McCann is dead. So on that basis, I still genuinely believe that there is a possibility that she is alive,” Detective Chief Inspector Andy Redwood said.

Madeline’s parents will be on a show called Crime Watch next Monday to speak out and talk more about the investigation.
