LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WHAS11) -- When the defense began its case in the Jeffrey Mundt murder trial today, attorneys presented witnesses who they believed would show Joey Banis, the co-defendant already convicted of the crime who testified Friday, was the only person responsible for killing James Carroll.

Carroll's body was found buried in the basement of Mundt's Old Louisville mansion three years ago.

Banis' former prison-mate Jason Keith Roberts was one of half-a-dozen witnesses called to the stand for the defense.

"A guy walked up to me and told me if I knew what was good for me, I would keep my mouth shut," Roberts testified.

He said the guy informed him Joey Banis said to say that.

Roberts testified he often witnessed Banis direct violence towards Mundt.

"Joey pulled a gun on me," Roberts said. "He told me if I took a step towards him, he'd kill me.

Testimony ended at around 2:30 this afternoon.

Mundt did not take the stand in his own defense.

Attorneys for both sides spent the rest of the day going over jury instructions.

Closing arguments in the case will begin at 9:00 a.m. tomorrow.
