LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WHAS11) -- On Aug. 31 in the wee hours of the morning, a man came home to his St. Matthews apartment to find a couple hauling some not so ordinary items.

"He witnessed individuals carrying items out of the basement storage area which happened to be chainsaws," Sergeant Charles Portman said.

The man knew something wasn't right. He got in his car, called police, and followed the couple to the Red Roof Inn. Police got a search warrant and discovered a room full of stolen goods.

Police say they estimate that $15,000 worth of property was stolen.

All of it is believed to come from apartment basements. Some of it valuable, but it's a lot of basement stuff, things most people haven't used in awhile.

"We've recovered nativity scenes, Christmas items, to vacation memorabilia, to war photos," Portman said.

The culprits, Marco Antonio Arroyo and Michelle Morris, had quite the cover while doing their dirty work--they posed as pizza delivery employees.

"One witness reported seeing a green vehicle with a Pizza Hut sign on it, exiting a storage unit," Portman said.

They are behind bars, but they left behind a lot of other people's stuff in their Red Roof room. Police believe they stole from dozens of apartment basements across Jefferson County. If you think you may be a victim, police encourage you to call detectives in your jurisdiction.

"Make a police report and have those detectives contact us," Portman said.
