LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WHAS11) – On May 21 police said 22-year-old Courtney Kippes left her 2 and 3-year-old children in her unlocked vehicle, with the windows cracked, while she got a wax job in the 2800 block of Frankfort Avenue.

According to the police report, several concerned business owners heard the kids screaming and eventually got them out of the vehicle.

Police said when the children were removed from the vehicle they were hot to the touch and sweaty.

According to the police report the children were transported to Kosair Children’s Hospital. Police said at the time of the call it was 84 degrees with a heat index of 87 percent.

While police were trying to find out who owned the vehicle, they found Kippes’ name on a pill bottle containing a crushed up pill with a snorting straw, according to police.

Once Kippes arrived at the scene she said she was OK with leaving the kids while she was getting a wax job, according to the police report.

Kippes is charged with wanton endangerment in the first degree, possession of a controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia.
