Police: Man shoots girlfriend’s ex-boyfriend during verbal argument

Robert Boyd is charged with assault in the first degree.

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WHAS11) – On Sunday, April 20, police arrested 28-year-old Robert Boyd after police said Boyd shot his girlfriend’s ex-boyfriend in the 6900 block of Blackhorse Drive.

Police said Boyd was at his girlfriend’s house on Sunday when her ex-boyfriend came to the house. According to the police report the ex-boyfriend was banging loudly on the door until Boyd opened it; the two then got into a verbal argument.

Police said Boyd told his girlfriend he was going to leave to prevent a fight. Boyd told police the ex-boyfriend kept raising his shirt to show him a black revolver in his waistband, according to the police report.

Boyd walked to his car, facing the ex-boyfriend, when the ex-boyfriend came towards Boyd while reaching for the gun in his waistband, police said.

Boyd told police that is when he reached for a gun in his car door and shot at the ex-boyfriend. Boyd’s girlfriend told police that both men began exchanging fire at that point, according to the police report.

Police said the ex-boyfriend was struck twice by gunfire, once in the face and once in the leg. He suffered non-life threatening injuries.

Boyd is charged with assault in the first degree.
