LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WHAS11) -- A Louisville man is accused of assaulting a Jefferson County Sheriff’s deputy after police say he kidnapped his ex-girlfriend at gunpoint.

According to police Frank Smith, 28, showed up at his ex-girlfriend’s home Monday and the two got into a fight. Police say Smith choked her before he pulled out a gun and forced her into his SUV. The woman jumped out of the SUV when Smith was stopped at a red light and ran into the Tune Up 2000 on Outer Loop Road.

An employee there, who did not want to be named, describes what he saw, “She was distraught. I mean she was screaming she couldn’t really talk when she came in. All she was really saying at first was you know, ‘Help! Help! Help!’”

Witnesses say as soon as the woman came into the shop a man sped into the parking lot after her and demanded she come with him.

“I kind of grabbed her and took her into the office. The nearest place I could hide her was the stock room so I kind of brought her to stay in there and shut the door and told her to stay in there and don’t move,” said the employee.

Witnesses say before Smith left the property he threatened to burn the shop down.

The Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office says four deputies went to Smith’s residence on Wurtele Avenue to serve a domestic violence warrant when he used his forearm to push one of the deputies off several stairs. Smith then took off running for about three blocks before he was eventually tased and arrested.

Smith is being held at Metro Corrections. He faces several felonies including kidnapping, assault in the 4th degree, possession of a handgun by a convicted felon, and terroristic threatening in the 3rd degree.
