Police: Man arrested after assaulting woman at Shawnee Park

Johnson is charged with assault in the fourth degree, operating a motor vehicle while under the influence of alcohol/drugs/etc., operating a vehicle with an expired operator’s license, endangering the welfare of a minor, license to be in possession and failure to use child restraint device in vehicle.

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WHAS11) – Louisville Metro Police officers arrested 34-year-old Anthony Johnson after police said he assaulted a woman in front of their children at Shawnee Park.

According to the police report, Johnson told the woman, who was in the 4500 block of West Broadway, he was coming to get money from her and she better have it. The victim told Johnson she did not have any money but he said he was coming to get some anyway, police said.

The victim tried to get her children into her van before Johnson came to get money from her but Johnson got there before she could leave and began to assault her in front of their kids and others at Shawnee Park, according to the police report.

According to the police the victim said Johnson hit her multiple times in the head and face with a closed fist that caused swelling of the face and a bloody nose.

When an officer was talking to the victim, the victim noticed Johnson driving by and an officer stopped Johnson at Garland Avenue and 42nd Street, according to the police report.

An officer noticed Johnson had glassy bloodshot eyes, slurred speech and a strong smell of alcohol coming from Johnson’s breath, according to the police report. Johnson refused to do field sobriety tests and cursed at the officer making a lot of noise, police said.

Police said in the back of Johnson’s car were two small children that were not restrained.
Johnson was not in possession of his operator’s license when stopped and Johnson’s license was found to be expired, according to police.
