LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WHAS11)- A Louisville woman is behind bars Monday afternoon after police say she severely abused her 4-month-old son.
Police say 22-year-old Lidy Henry admitted to biting her son multiple times, leaving bite marks all over his body.
Henry admitted to police that the abuse started not long after the baby was born.
She was arrested on March 25 at her home on East Ormsby.
According to police, she admitted to biting her son multiple times, leaving bite marks across his body.
Henry says she hit him in the shoulder with a closed fist, slammed him in his car seat and shook him violently.
The boy was treated at Kosair Children’s Hospital for multiple broken bones, including rib and arm fractures.
Henry’s friend Elizabeth Hancock, who lives one floor below her, says Henry seemed depressed but does not believe that Henry would be capable of abusing her son.
Hancock says that Henry took the boy to Kosair to be treated for a rash, and that is when doctors discovered the marks and broken bones.
"She used to babysit other children too. That’s why it’s hard for me to believe that she'd harm the baby. She really loved that baby," says Hancock.
ECHO’s President Lucy Lee says new mothers can be under tremendous stress, but says it’s more important than ever, during that time, for the family to watch for signs the parent or child might need help.
"If we pick up the phone and call the Child Abuse Hotline or 911, and make a report of suspected abuse, it might be that Child Protective Services can move in and help a family before it escalates to this point,” said Lee.
Henry is in jail on a $200,000 bond. She is charged with domestic violence and criminal abuse.
Her preliminary hearing is set for April 5.
The family says the baby is doing well and staying with his father.
