SCOTT COUNTY, Ind. (WHAS11) – A man wanted in connection to a shooting that happened on May 27 on Bard Road near Crohtersville, Ind. was arrested on Sunday, July 13.
Police said thirty-five-year-old Jay McGinnis, of Austin, Ind., suffered a minor injury as a result of the Crothersville shooting and the window to his 2006 Nissan Altima was shot out. The investigation led police to 28-year-old Jonathon Lee “Chisel” Chilton and since the incident, law enforcement in the area have spent numerous man hours following leads and searching for Chilton.
Chilton was arrested at the Cracker Barrel Restaurant in Scottsburg. ISP said they received a citizen’s tip Chilton was in the Scottsburg area. Troopers searched the area all day on Sunday with help from the Southern Indiana Great Lakes U.S. Marshal’s Task Force and Chilton was found in his vehicle in the parking lot of the restaurant.
According to ISP, troopers approached the vehicle and ordered Chilton to surrender. Police said Chilton refused to surrender and troopers had to force the driver’s door open and arrested Chilton.
ISP said during the investigation, they found numerous pills and drug paraphernalia in the vehicle.
Chilton was taken to Scott County Jail and is charged with two counts of possession of a schedule II controlled substance, three counts of possession of a legend drug, possession of paraphernalia, resisting law enforcement and driving while suspended with a prior conviction.
Due to the incident in Crothersville on May 27, Chilton is facing charges in Jackson County of attempted battery with deadly weapon, criminal recklessness with a weapon and possession of a handgun without a permit.
