LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WHAS11) -- A Pleasure Ridge Park student is under arrest and facing criminal sex charges.
Louisville Metro Police say a PRP student was arrested at the school on Monday and charged with attempted rape and sexual abuse in the first degree.
The family of the victim is upset about the crime.
“Very, very, very disgusting,” said the victim’s grandfather.
The 16-year-old is charged with attempted rape. Family of the victim tells us he tried to rape a 17-year-old girl in a stairwell at the high school.
Neither the victim, nor teen arrested will be identified in this story because they are juveniles.
The victim’s grandparents are her guardians. The alleged incident happened Friday, and the young man was arrested Monday.
“Sticking his hand down her pants, groping her,” he said. “And he did it against her will.”
Her grandfather said the teenager no longer feels safe at school.
“I’m not gonna let [anything] hurt her. Now she’s talking about wanting to transfer schools and all that,” he said. “That ain’t right for a kid to have to do this.”
The grandfather wants JCPS to prevent the 16-year-old from returning to PRP, and for the district to contact him to discuss the case.
“If somebody at the head of JCPS doesn't do something about it I will try to do everything in my power to do something about it,” he said,
JCPS told us school officials were notified about the incident Friday, and contacted police. It is now a police investigation, and JCPS will provide any assistance necessary.
