Man accused of stealing beer, meat, books from Kroger

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WHAS 11) — A Louisville man was arrested and charged with robbery, feeling police, criminal mischief and three counts assault of two police officers Friday night.

Police said Robert W. Smith Jr., 43, entered Kroger on 7th Street Road and stole $273.03 worth of merchandise in selected beer, meats and books. When officers arrived, Smith fled the scene, according to the arrest report, and assaulted two police officers with active aggression.

As Smith ran from the store, police said he knocked down a senior citizen, causing injury to the man, and damaged a metal detector, police noted in their report.

Smith has been accused of stealing from the Kroger before - he was banned and warned not to return, but police said he ignored the warning.

Officers caught Smith in the parking lot.
