LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WHAS11) -- A Louisville father says he acted alone when killing his stepson.  Josh Gouker says his 16-year-old son had nothing to do with the crime, even though he is also charged with the murder.

“This is probably where I belong,” Josh Gouker said.

Almost to the West Virginia state line sits Little Sandy Correctional Complex.  This is Gouker's current home.

“His mother aborted my kid and, um, I tried to let it go but I couldn't.”

Gouker is charged with the murder of his 14-year-old step son Trey Zwicker.

The teen was found beaten to death behind Liberty High School in Louisville in 2011.

“I didn't even really think about it.  It was just too late.  I'd already hit him man. And I couldn't stop,” Gouker said. “It’s one of the worst things I ever did it is the worst thing I ever did. I don't know, man, drinking, smoking weed I’m my biggest enemy.”

Gouker says he'd been drinking and smoking weed most of the day before Zwicker's death.

“After I hit him, I didn't say nothing,” Gouker said. “I couldn't even believe I did it.”
“Did you love trey?” WHAS 11’s Renee Murphy asked. “Yeah, I was part of his life for almost all his life.”

Gouker's 16-year-old son Josh Young is also charged with the murder.  Prosecutors believe Gouker told his son to kill Zwicker.

“Did you set your son up to kill Trey Zwicker?”  Murphy asked.

“No, absolutely not, I would not plan on killing Trey for nothing,” Gouker said. “Josh loves me and I let him down. I let a lot of people down but it’s something in me.”

“That's what we wanted them to think that Josh did it because he was a juvenile he'd get less time. I’m already on parole he'd be out in three or four years.”

Gouker was going to let his son take the rap.  But now his case has been waived to adult court.  He says for the first time in his life he is telling the truth.

“I didn't think it would be on us like this, you know? It’s one murder there are a whole bunch of murders. I didn't think people would be this persistent with it.”

The motive for the murder was revenge.  Gouker confirms what jailhouse informants told police.  He wanted to kill the teen because his mother aborted their baby.

“Look Amanda killed my kid she knows who I am,” Gouker said.

“What do you want to say to her about taking her only son?” Murphy asked.  “We're even,” Gouker said.

Trey was a good kid I wish it would have happened to Amanda and Terry. That's who I wish I would have killed.”

Amanda is Trey’s mother and Terry is Trey’s father.  Gouker says he has strong feelings against Terry and said that may have played a role in Trey’s murder.

Prosecutors have said that they have a strong case against Josh Young.  They have no plans to drop the charges against him.

Gouker says police don’t have a strong case against him.  He wouldn’t reveal the murder weapon to us but said police don’t have it.
