LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WHAS11) -- A Louisville mother is facing charges after she was accused of leaving her children in a car unattended.
Amara L. Phelps, 25, is charged with 2nd degree criminal abuse.
According to a police report, Phelps left her children in the car while she went in to the Target on Dixie Highway.
Police said a witness saw the children in the car and notified store employees. When officers arrived on the scene they arrested Phelps.
Police said Phelps "caused cruel confinement to the children who are less than 12-year-old" by leaving them in a cold car for more than 20 minutes. According to the report, the temperature outside was 43 degrees.
