LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WHAS11) – Louisville Metro Police are investigating a shooting in the Beechmont neighborhood that happened early Sunday morning, Aug. 11, and has lead to the arrest of one man.

Police were called to the 100 block of Francis Avenue after they say a Hispanic man, who has been identified as 25-year-old Virjilio Salez-Melendez, was shot. Salez-Melendez died at University Hospital on Thursday, Aug. 15.

Police say Salez-Melendez and the shooter knew each other and the incident stemmed from an earlier altercation with the victim’s family.

Police arrested 47-year-old Michael Murphy near his home about two miles from the crime scene. Murphy's charges have been upgraded to murder since the victim died on Thursday.

Police believe the shooting is an isolated situation and there are no other suspects involved.

Funeral arrangements for Salez-Melendez are pending.
