HODGENVILLE, Ky. (AP) -- A central Kentucky man charged with murder in a vehicle chase that led to a police officer's death has entered a not guilty plea.

Twenty-nine-year-old Jason Avis of Vine Grove is also charged with wanton endangerment, fleeing and evading, leaving the scene of an accident and persistent felony offense in connection to a crash in September that killed Hodgenville Police Officer Mark Taulbee.

State police said Taulbee lost control of his vehicle while chasing Avis and died when it crashed into an embankment.

The News-Enterprise (http://bit.ly/UcOtqh) reports a jury trial was set during Monday's hearing for May 8. Avis remains lodged in the LaRue County Detention Center on a $1 million cash bond.
