LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WHAS11) – Louisville Metro Police say a suspected mail thief was caught red handed as dropped a trail of mail as he walked down Newburg Road.

Officers say a witness flagged down police after 19-year-old Andre Poynter was spotted taking mail from boxes in the 3900 block of Bantam Court and a couple of houses in the 3400 block of Newburg Road.

An officer observed Poynter with numerous mail items in his pocket and was described dropping items as he headed southbound.

The stolen mail recovered included regular and government issued checks and bills.

Poynter is facing theft of mail matter charges.
