LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WHAS11) -- A Louisville woman says she’s seen a suspicious man lurking around local parks trying to lure kids to his car. Now police are investigating the incidents in the East End.
Stephanie VonTrapp has been rattled for about a month.
“I told him I recognize you from Tom Sawyer. I'm calling the police now and he sped off,” VonTrapp said.
She says she first saw the man at Tom Sawyer Park off Westport Road several weeks ago.
“I saw the car approach two young girls, or what looked like two young girls, um, and that made me concerned so I started to walk towards the car and he rolled down the window and he called out to me and I told him he needed to leave,” VonTrapp said.
She didn't get a good look at him then but swore if she saw him again - she would.
And the opportunity presented itself again on Sunday, May 27, in a field and park area down the street from Tom Sawyer near Portland Christian School on Westport.
“He pulled up. I recognized him. I recognized the car and he told me he was looking for a girlfriend for the afternoon and I told him I recognized him from Tom Sawyer and I was called the police so I reported to the police his license plate number a very detailed description of him and then I posted it on Facebook and asked people to share,” VonTrapp said.
And people did.
“It worried me because I come here with my grandkids a friend of mines daughter who lives in Greensboro and she had facebooked her friends and said spread the word and you can see how it's spreading like wild fire,” Marsha Drescher, local grandmother, said.
Other moms nearby say this is a good reminder for them to be on guard - even in the places you feel safe.
“That is pretty scary. We come out here pretty often to Sawyer park my son my kids play soccer over here. Definitely want to make sure to get it out to the community and let everyone know,” Christy Laframboise, local mother, said.
VonTrapp says he’s a white man in a white Chevy convertible, very tan, with white hair and a tooth missing from his right side. She says he appears to be in his sixties.
