(WHAS11) – Nineteen-year-old Hunter Schaad is behind bars after police say he broke into a house full of sleeping people on the 1100 block of Ash St.
According to the family who lives there, he cut the screen off of a bedroom window and broke in early Monday morning. The homeowner says he took her purse and several articles of clothing and walked out the front door. The homeowner’s grandson, 18-year-old Cody Collett, tried to stop Schaad as he was driving away from the house.
Police say Collett fired a gun at least twice at Schaad as he drove away. According to Police, one bullet grazed Schaad, which has landed Collett in trouble with the law.
Police say because Schaad was off his grandmother’s property and Collett chased after him it was not self-defense.
Collett faces assault in the second degree and wanton endangerment charges. A warrant has been issued for his arrest. His family says he plans to turn himself in on Wednesday.
Schaad faces burglary charges.
