LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WHAS11) -- A Louisville attorney is facing charges connected to prostitution and drugs.

Police said John Owens was arrested Wednesday at the Red Carpet Inn on Hurstbourne Parkway.  Owens was caught at the hotel trying to exchange pills for sex, according to court documents.

John Owens, or Patrick, as he is known by friends, operates his law business from this top floor of a South Floyd house. A friend WHAS11 spoke with leaving the building said Owens did not want to speak to the media, but his landlord Marian Lukasik did.

"He is absolutely the best tenant I have ever had," said Marian Lukasik.

According to Owens' attorney Alex Fleming, Owens entered a plea of not guilty in court Friday. He was arrested on Wednesday. According to police, he had Klonopin anti anxiety pills, Hydrocodone, Marijuana and drug paraphernalia on him. In addition he was charged with trafficking a controlled substance within one thousand feet of a day care.

Detectives conducted an investigation through an informant and received information that Owens would be at that location, according to a police report.

"His statement upon seeing law enforcement was 'hey guys, you got me.' He knew the gig was up," says  Major Ken Hatmaker with Jeffersontown Police.

Owens does not have a prior criminal record and his next court date is set for August 15.
