LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WHAS11) -- A local woman has been arrested after police said she admitted to abusing her child.
According to police reports, Mikesha Thomas, 23, struck her child with a belt on June 25 for "acting up" at a local YMCA.
In the days that followed, Thomas' 7-year-old son returned to the YMCA where a worker noticed marks on him. After being asked what the marks were from, police said the child told a YMCA worker his mother had grabbed him with her nails and hit him with a belt.
The YMCA worker contacted Child Protective Services and a report was filed along with pictures of the child's injuries. CPS notified police detectives.
Detectives spoke with Thomas and said she admitted to striking her son. She was arrested July 16.
Thomas is facing a third degree child abuse charge.
