LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WHAS11) – A couple responsible for multiple day care thefts in St. Matthews have turned themselves in, according to police.
Police say Duane Acklin and Tamera Jenkins turned themselves into attorneys and then police after being on the run since warrants for their arrest were issued on January 29.
The pair was wanted for stealing cash and credit cards from day care center employees.
Police say Acklin and Jenkins would pretend to be parents wanting to enroll their child in a day care and wait until the employee was distracted to try and steal their credit cards or cash.
They used this story with at least 6 day cares in St. Matthews and Metro Louisville.
Employees of Ajabuland and Cornerstone Child Development also report dealing with the couple.
Acklin and Jenkins do have criminal records.
Acklin’s history includes assault and domestic violence while Jenkins was on probation for a 2012 assault involving family.
Police say Jenkins did contact police right after they issued the warrant and said she would turn herself in. They still have not determined why the two waited 12 days to follow through with that promised.
Both are currently awaiting arraignment at Metro Corrections.
