LONDON (WHAS11) – Police in London are finding some unique ways to catch thieves and it could be something right out of superhero films.

Police say when Yafet Askale broke into a car, stole a laptop and other items, he was sprayed with an invisible liquid called Smartwater.

Police later picked him up and took mug shots which revealed the invisible liquid turning green under ultraviolet light.

The Smartwater is apparently impossible to wash out of clothing and can stay on the skin for weeks.

London police say they’ve been using it and it’s led to a 40 percent drop in street robbery.
