LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WHAS11)  --  A convicted murderer has been arrested after police said he abused his wife.

According to the arrest report, officers responded to a domestic violence dispatch in the morning hours of July 16. Upon arrival, officers said they were flagged down by the victim several houses away from the reported location. She told police she had been slapped in the face multiple times and hit with a walking cane several times by her husband, 54-year-old Calvin Posey.

Police went to the Posey's home to question the suspect, but he was not at the home. After a brief search, an officer found and detained Posey.

The report states the couple began arguing about a homeless woman whom Calvin allowed to stay at their home after the woman came knocking. Police said the victim did not want the woaman to stay and an argument ensued.

Police said after a few minutes into the dispute, the woman left the house. This allegedly caused Posey to get violent with his wife. According to the report, Posey smacked her across the face and hit her with his cane. Although, Posey claims his wife began hitting him first and his actions were in self-defense.

Posey's wife told officers he regularly beats her and she could not take it anymore. She said she fears for her life and wants to get away from him.

Posey was convicted of murder in 1985 and served 10 years. He is now facing a fourth degree assault charge.
