LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WHAS11)—Police arrest a man after he allegedly steals a cashiers check from man he gave ride to.
Police arrested Brian Jacob Wells, 37, was arrested after police say he fled a robbery, where he took a check from someone he was giving a ride to.
Police said they were called to a hold up of an individual in the 7000 block of Manslick Road. The victim said that he had asked for a ride from the suspect and his female companion to cash his Western Union money order. The victim offered the suspect $10 for gas for the ride.
Police said after several attempts to cash the check, the suspect became agitated and wanted to see the check to make sure he wasn’t being deceived.
Police said when the victim allowed the suspect to see the check, the suspect demanded the victim exit the vehicle.
After the victim asked about his check, police said the suspect pulled out a blunt object, a slapstick, and threatened the victim.
Police said the victim was in fear of serious injury or loss of life and backed up, allowing the suspect to flee. The victim was able to obtain the license plate number of the red Ford.
Police say they went to the owners residence and obtained information on the suspect. Wells was observed driving in the area and was stopped. Officers received consent to search the vehicle, where they found the slapstick, that was identified by the victim.
Wells is charged with robbery first and will be arraigned on Oct. 17. He has a $500 cash bond.
