LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WHAS11) – On Jan. 8 police said 33-year-old Kenneth Steitz attempted to steal $642.55 worth of merchandise from a Wal-Mart on Cedar Springs Boulevard.
Police said two people with Wal-Mart’s loss prevention saw Steitz trying to walk out of the store past all points of purchase without paying with a cart full of merchandise.
According to the police report when loss prevention confronted him, Steitz put his hands around the neck of a Wal-Mart employee.
Police say Steitz then fled on foot towards Bardstown Road.
The police say loss prevention was able to stop an individual who they believe was with Steitz. The man told officers who the suspect was and after police obtained a picture of the suspect, loss prevention was able to identify the suspect as Steitz, according to police.
Police were able to then locate Steitz at his residence and arrest him, police said.
According to the police report Steitz admitted to trying to steal the merchandise on the way to Louisville Metro Corrections.
Steitz is charged with robbery in the second degree and wanton endangerment in the second degree.
