LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WHAS11)-- LMPD arrested a man after he broke into a home and was confronted by the homeowners.

Police arrested Charles Cornelius, 27, after they were called to an active break-in  at 4317 Taylorsville Road.

According to the police report Cornelius broke the latch on the fence to enter the yard at the back of the house and then used a baseball bat to break a bathroom window to gain entry.

The report states that he was met by a female victim in the kitchen. The victim told police that Cornelius was armed with a frying pan and said he was looking for another female in the home and that he stated, "Just give me the baby."

A female homeowner called police to report the intruder, then helped the others struggle and fight with Cornelius in the kitchen and subdue him.

What police arrived, two of the homeowners were still actively struggling with him. Once in custody, Cornelius was read his Miranda rights and then told police that he was there to kidnap the baby.

According to the arrest report, he said he thought he was the baby's father and the court would not give him a DNA test. He also told police where he parked his vehicle before walking over to the house to break-in.

The baby's mother told police that she had sex  with Cornelius only once, nearly 10 years ago, and had not talked to him much since, so the child, born in 2013, could not be his.

She also told police that he had been acting very strange the past few years.

Cornelius is charged with first degree burglary.
