LOUISVILLE, Ky.  --  A Louisville mother has been arrested after police said she lost her child.

According to LMPD, officers were dispatched to a home in the south side of Louisville where they discovered Emile Magaya, 27, sitting on the front steps of her building. Magaya told police that her 18-month-old child was missing and had been for two hours.

Magaya claimed that she was in the bathroom and when she came out her child was missing. Police say Magaya failed to show urgency in her search for the child.

Upon further investigation, police discovered that late watch officers had responded to a call ten hours earlier about a child found outside the building. The officers found Magaya's residence and the door was open but no one was home.

Magaya later identified the found child as her own. She is facing a 1st degree wanton endangerment charge.
